Voting Begins in JUCSU Election

Voting has commenced in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and Hall Union elections.

On Thursday, 11 September, polling started at 9:00 a.m. and will continue without interruption until 5:00 p.m. Voting is being conducted in 224 booths across 21 residential halls of the university — comprising 10 women’s halls and 11 men’s halls.

Professor A. K. M. Rashidul Alam, Member Secretary of the JUCSU Election Commission, confirmed that:

  • Each hall has a Returning Officer assigned.
  • A total of 67 teachers are serving as Polling Officers, supported by an equal number of Assistant Polling Officers (administrative officials).
  • Members of Ansar and other security personnel are stationed at the polling centres to maintain discipline.

 

In this election, 178 candidates are contesting for various posts. The major positions and the number of contenders are as follows:

To ensure a peaceful election, extensive security arrangements have been made:

  • 1,500 police personnel deployed
  • 7 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on duty
  • 5 platoons of Ansar members present

Law enforcement agencies have been positioned both inside and outside the campus to prevent any unrest.

 

The official campaign period concluded at midnight on 9 September.

Today, voting continues from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., marking a crucial day in Jahangirnagar University’s student politics.
