Warfaze: Four Decades of Musical Excellence

Bangladesh’s pioneering rock band, Warfaze, has etched its name into the annals of the nation’s music history. In a landmark recognition, the band has been nominated for the 2026 Ekushey Padak, making it the first band in Bangladesh to receive this prestigious national honour. The award recognises four decades of outstanding musical and cultural contributions. Alongside Warfaze, nine other distinguished individuals from various fields will also be honoured. The formal award ceremony is scheduled for the end of this month.

Reunion and Celebration

Following the announcement, Warfaze organised a grand reunion, drawing current and former members from across the globe, including Canada, the United States, and China. The primary aim was to celebrate the honour collectively and create lasting memories for all involved.

Founder and bassist Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal remarked, “Warfaze is more than just a band; it’s a family. After the award announcement, we decided to accept this honour together. Everything has happened so swiftly and beautifully—it feels almost dreamlike.”

Co-founder, band leader, and drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam added, “Unfortunately, our original lineup member, Russell Ali, could not attend. We deeply missed those who couldn’t join us. Their presence would have made the celebration even more joyous.”

The Reunion Event

The reunion took place on a Friday in Banani, Dhaka. Members and their families filled the venue with warmth and camaraderie. The event featured iftar and an evening dinner, alongside performances from various artists, enriching the atmosphere. Nostalgic stories and recollections of the band’s early days highlighted the continuity of their forty-year musical journey. Sheikh Monirul Alam reflected, “It felt like a true family gathering. Everyone was deeply reflective; it was genuinely a joyful occasion.”

Warfaze’s Musical Journey

Founded in 1984 in Dhaka by five school friends—Kamal (bass), Meer (guitar), Naimul (guitar), Helal (drums), and Bappi (vocals)—Warfaze has since become a legendary name in Bangladesh’s rock scene, inspiring countless young musicians.
