Wedding anniversary of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is being extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes today, 17 November, on the occasion of her wedding anniversary. On this day in 1967, she entered into matrimony with her life partner, eminent nuclear scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah. This was not merely the union of two individuals; it was also a significant milestone connected with the nation’s history, scientific advancement, and future.

Dr Wazed Miah, popularly known as Shundor Sudha Mia, was a distinguished and internationally recognised nuclear scientist of Bangladesh. He was born on 16 February 1942 in Pirganj of Rangpur. He studied at the University of Dhaka and later obtained his PhD in Physics from Durham University in the United Kingdom.

Their married life was blessed with two children—Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul.

Dr Wazed Miah was not only a scientist; he also played an influential role in the country’s society and politics. In his professional life, he served as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. His lifestyle was modest, polite, and free from unnecessary grandeur.

Another significant aspect of his life was his support and encouragement to the family of Bangabandhu during the Liberation War of 1971.

The wedding day—17 November 1967—was not just a personal moment; it was the bonding of two brilliant minds and two families, which later became a symbol of Bangladesh’s political and scientific progress.

Today, on this special day, respect and gratitude are being expressed towards him. Alongside, best wishes are being conveyed for Sheikh Hasina’s long life, good health, and peaceful living. Her leadership continues to inspire the nation’s advancement—and the memory of her beloved husband, Dr Wazed Miah, reinforces that inspiration even further.

Warm wishes and congratulations on the wedding anniversary, Honourable Prime Minister.
