What We Know About the Discovery of Two Bodies in a Car at Medical College Parking

Relatives have alleged that Zakir Hossain and Mizanur were murdered in the parking lot of Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College in Maushak, Dhaka.

On Tuesday (12 August) afternoon, their family members came to collect the bodies from the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Family Alleges Fraudulent Travel Deal

Zakir’s family claimed that two years ago he fell victim to a broker’s scheme, paying 2.5 million taka to a travel agency in Paltan to arrange his travel to the United States. However, the agency failed to send him to America and never refunded the money. The repayment was reportedly due on 10 August. The next day, Zakir and his friend’s bodies were recovered.

Discovery of Bodies in the Vehicle

On Monday (11 August) afternoon, the hospital’s Chief Security Officer Mizanur Rahman found two bodies inside a white Toyota Fielder parked in the basement of the medical college building.

Upon receiving the report, police verified the vehicle registration plate and owner information from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), then contacted the owner.

The vehicle owner informed police that the driver was named Zakir, and the other person present was called Mizan. Both hailed from Chatkhil in Noakhali district.

Timeline and Details of the Incident

Police stated that on early Sunday morning (10 August), the vehicle owner came to the hospital to visit a relative undergoing treatment. Besides the driver, another individual was with the owner in the vehicle. Although the owner left the hospital alone, both the driver and the companion remained inside the car.

Ongoing Investigation

Masud, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Zone, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other experts are arriving to conduct further inquiries. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. CCTV footage is also being analysed. The vehicle owner is expected to come forward for questioning.

The DC expressed hope that after completing all investigations, it will become clear whether the deaths were murders or due to other causes.
