Residents of the capital can expect bright and largely uninterrupted sunshine on the first day of Ramadan, as clear skies prevail across Dhaka and its surrounding areas. According to the latest forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday morning, conditions are set to remain dry and stable throughout much of the day.
The department’s bulletin, covering the period from 7:00am for the subsequent six hours, indicates that the sky over Dhaka will remain mostly clear, allowing for extended hours of sunlight. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rise slightly compared with the previous day, while there is no likelihood of rainfall or thunderstorms during this period. Winds are expected to blow from the north to north-westerly direction at speeds ranging between 6 and 10 kilometres per hour, contributing to relatively comfortable outdoor conditions despite the increasing warmth.
Meteorological data recorded at 6:00am show that Dhaka experienced a maximum temperature of 33.0°C and a minimum of 18.2°C. Humidity stood at 75 per cent, suggesting a moderately moist atmosphere during the early hours of the morning. For comparison, on Wednesday the city recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6°C and a minimum of 17.9°C, indicating a slight upward trend in daytime heat.
| Date | Maximum Temp (°C) | Minimum Temp (°C) | Humidity (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wednesday | 31.6 | 17.9 | — |
| Thursday | 33.0 | 18.2 | 75 |
The modest increase in temperature may be felt more noticeably by those observing the Ramadan fast, particularly during the early afternoon when the sun’s intensity peaks. However, the absence of rainfall and strong winds should provide generally stable conditions across the metropolitan area.
Sunset in Dhaka is scheduled for 5:56pm today, marking the time for Iftar at the conclusion of the first fast. Sunrise tomorrow is expected at 6:29am.
In its broader national forecast, the Meteorological Department has indicated that no significant changes in weather patterns are expected across the country in the coming hours. Nonetheless, light mist may form nationwide from midnight until early morning. In areas where fog becomes denser, there is a possibility of temporary disruptions to domestic air travel, inland river transport and road communications.
Authorities have advised transport operators to exercise caution during early morning operations, particularly on highways and waterways prone to reduced visibility. Overall, however, the first day of Ramadan is set to begin under calm and seasonally typical late-winter conditions, offering clear skies and moderate warmth for the capital and much of the country.
