Whether the Election Will Be Held in February Depends on the United States: Ushatan

Politician and former Member of Parliament Ushatan Talukder has said that despite the Chief Adviser announcing the 13th National Parliamentary Election and sending a formal letter to the Election Commission to organise it in February, public doubt remains.

“Although a letter has been sent, there is still a lingering question in people’s minds—will the election truly take place in February? Everything now depends on what the United States wants,” he stated.

He made these remarks on Saturday morning (9 August) during a discussion event at the Rangamati Municipality premises in observance of International Indigenous Peoples Day.

He further commented,

“The United States, Russia, China, and India are now global superpowers. Their focus has shifted to the Bay of Bengal. The President of the United States, in particular, has set his sights on the Bay of Bengal and Myanmar. As a result, our fate is being toyed with.”

Touching on the long-standing peace process in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Ushatan said,

“It has been 27 years, yet the Peace Accord remains unimplemented. Marginalised communities in the region are being deprived of their rights. The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) is entirely responsible for the non-implementation of the Accord. No outsider will fight for our rights—we must claim them ourselves.”

As a senior leader of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), he called upon all communities to unite and take part in a collective struggle to secure their rights.
