Wife Poses Living Husband as Dead to Claim ₹2.5 Million Insurance

In India, a woman fraudulently claimed ₹2.5 million from an insurance company by declaring her living husband as dead. The incident came to light after which police arrested the couple.

According to media reports, Lucknow police uncovered the fraud following a complaint filed by a man named Sandeep Wadhkur against the couple.

The complaint stated that a man named Ravi Shankar had taken an insurance policy worth ₹2.5 million in December 2012. On April 21, 2023, his wife, Keshri Kumari, filed a claim with the insurance company stating that her husband had died on April 9. She also submitted a death certificate as proof.

After verification, her claim was approved, and the money was transferred to her bank account. However, an internal investigation later revealed that the claim was entirely false and that Ravi Shankar was still alive.

Subsequently, a case of fraud was filed. Police reported that both Ravi Shankar and Keshri Kumari were arrested and brought to the police station on Monday. During interrogation, the couple admitted to committing the fraud.
