Woman Dies After Fire in a Locked Flat in Keraniganj

A woman has died after being burnt in a fire caused by an electrical short circuit in the Amritpur area of Jinjira Union under Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening in a south-facing unit on the second floor of a building owned by Dolon Hossain.

According to locals, the fire damaged several pieces of furniture, including a refrigerator. The estimated loss is around two lakh taka. Police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene upon receiving the news, brought the fire under control, and recovered the burnt body of the woman.

Locals further stated that the door of the flat was locked from the outside at the time of the incident.

It has also been learnt that around four to five years ago, two sisters—Salma Begum and Shamsunnahar Begum—rented the flat. They are daughters of Samsuddin from Ardeepara Kanaipara village under Srinagar Police Station in Munshiganj. Police have yet to confirm the identity of the woman who died in the fire.

Keraniganj Model Police Station OC Monirul Haque Dabloo said that police were immediately dispatched to the location after receiving the fire incident report. An investigation is underway, and efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased woman.
