The body of an unidentified woman, believed to be approximately 45 years old, was recovered by police on Wednesday morning beside the service lane of the Bhanga–Dhaka Expressway in Bhanga Upazila. The discovery was made around 8:30am in the Middle Brahmanpara এলাকায় of Azimnagar Union, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.
According to witnesses, several early-morning labourers and passers-by noticed a woman lying motionless by the roadside at dawn. Upon closer inspection, they realised she was dead and promptly informed the authorities. Officers from Bhanga Police Station arrived at the scene, secured the area, and transferred the body to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary observations suggest signs of physical assault. Sub-Inspector Md Mosharraf Hossain stated that visible injury marks were found on the victim’s neck and hands. Investigators suspect that she may have been strangled, although the exact cause of death will only be confirmed following forensic analysis. Police have refrained from drawing definitive conclusions pending the autopsy report.
The location of the incident is considered strategically significant. The Bhanga–Dhaka Expressway serves as a principal transport corridor linking the south-western region of Bangladesh with the capital. It carries substantial volumes of both heavy freight and passenger vehicles throughout the day and night. Its service lanes and adjoining areas are typically under surveillance due to the road’s national importance.
Law enforcement officials have begun collecting forensic evidence from the scene. CCTV footage from nearby toll plazas and surveillance cameras installed along the service lane is being reviewed in an effort to identify suspicious vehicles or individuals who may have been present during the late hours of Tuesday night, when the crime is believed to have occurred.
In parallel, police have circulated messages to surrounding Thanas seeking assistance in identifying the deceased. Records of missing persons’ general diaries (GDs) are also being scrutinised to determine whether any recent reports correspond with the victim’s profile.
