In a disturbing incident in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda Upazila, a 26-year-old man, Sajid Hasan, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting and physically abusing a young woman under the pretext of marriage. The incident occurred in the village of North Chandpur.
According to police and local sources, Sajid Hasan had been coercing the 24-year-old victim for an extended period, offering marriage as a means to exploit her. Shockingly, when the victim herself proposed accepting him as her husband, Hasan reportedly rejected her offer, escalating the abuse. Subsequently, the victim lodged a formal complaint at Damurhuda Model Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
Acting on the complaint, police conducted a special operation in the early hours of Monday. Around 4:00 am, a team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mejbah Uddin apprehended Sajid Hasan at his residence, the son of Abdul Khalek, in North Chandpur village. Sub-Inspector (SI) Uttam Kumar, the investigating officer, stated, “Based on confidential intelligence, we executed a targeted operation, resulting in the arrest of the accused.”
OC Mejbah Uddin confirmed, “Sajid Hasan has been taken into custody for alleged rape and physical assault. He has been presented before the court as per legal procedure, and the investigation is ongoing. The police are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and protection of the victim.”
The local community has strongly condemned the incident, urging both authorities and society at large to raise awareness and take effective action against sexual violence. Residents have also commended the police for their prompt response and swift apprehension of the suspect.
