A young man named Fahim Islam, aged 19, has been arrested by police in Kulaura, Moulvibazar, on charges of making statements about Sheikh Hasina and shouting the slogan “Joy Bangla”.

The arrest took place on Saturday night, 9 August. A police team, led by Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Faruk and including Sub-Inspector (SI) Habibur Rahman, Mostafizur Rahman, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mirazul Islam, conducted a raid in the Magura area of the municipal town and apprehended Fahim.

Fahim Islam is the son of Moinul Islam and hails from Dasura Bazar in the Beanibazar Upazila of Sylhet district. He resides with his family in a rented house in Magura, Kulaura municipality.
Incident Description
It is reported that Fahim recently sat in front of banners outside the house of a BNP leader named Murad Ahmed in Kulaura and delivered a speech concerning Sheikh Hasina. Several of his classmates recorded a video of the speech.
In the video, Fahim stated, “The Awami League will return once again.”
While chanting the slogan “Joy Bangla,” he said:
“Sheikh Hasina is the only proud woman of Bangladesh. On a rainy afternoon, she took the helm of the country. Inshallah, we have one hope in our hearts—that one day she will return. We shall meet under the banner of ‘Joy Bangla’.”
Spread of the Video
The video was initially posted on a Facebook page named ‘Kulaura Dotcom.’ Subsequently, it was shared on another page called ‘Swadhin 24/7,’ where it went viral.
Official Confirmation and Legal Process
OC Omar Faruk of Kulaura Police confirmed the arrest, stating that the viral video shows Fahim sitting in front of several banners outside the BNP leader Murad Ahmed’s residence, delivering his speech about Sheikh Hasina and shouting the slogan “Joy Bangla” while mentioning her imminent return.
Following the circulation of the video and attention from authorities, police launched the operation that led to Fahim’s arrest.
He added that Fahim would be presented before the court on Sunday and then sent to prison.
