Young Man Dies After Falling from Train in Kamalganj

A tragic accident claimed the life of a young man on Wednesday morning in Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj Upazila, highlighting ongoing concerns over railway safety in the region. The victim, 20-year-old Zubayer Ahmed, reportedly fell from a moving train near Bridge No. 168, close to Bhanugach Railway Station in the Magurchhara area.

Zubayer, a resident of Saribari village in Kamalganj Sadar Union, was the son of Chorag Ali. Local residents discovered his body beneath the railway bridge along the Srimangal–Bhanugach line and immediately notified the Kamalganj police. The authorities, in turn, informed the Railway Government Railway Police (GRP), who took over the investigation.

Preliminary reports suggest that Zubayer suffered severe injuries to the right side of his face, indicating he may have fallen from a moving train. At the scene, police recovered a single shoe and some loose change, which officials believe could be connected to the accident. The precise circumstances of the fall remain unclear, and investigators are exploring whether it was purely accidental.

Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal of Kamalganj police visited the site and confirmed that the case has been handed over to the railway authorities for detailed inquiry. “The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Our investigation continues in close coordination with the railway police,” he said.

Local residents expressed shock at the sudden death, warning about the dangers of unsafe travel near railway lines, particularly around bridges and sparsely supervised tracks. Community members also called for increased vigilance and safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Railway authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and conducting witness interviews to reconstruct the events leading to the fall. Officials have urged the public to exercise extreme caution near railway lines and avoid travelling on trains in unsafe conditions.
