A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning (29 January) at Patgram railway station in Lalmonirhat, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Munna Mia. According to railway officials, Munna was attempting to board a local train from Burimari before it had come to a complete stop when he was struck and fatally injured.

Munna, a resident of Stationpara in Ward No. 5 of Patgram municipality, was the son of Khokon Mia, a local cloth merchant. Patgram Railway Station Master Nur Alam confirmed that the young man suffered a severe head injury after being hit by the train and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses and railway personnel reported that Munna was standing beside the tracks around 6:15 a.m., waiting for the train bound for Lalmonirhat. The train, identified as Local No. 456 from Parbatipur to Dinajpur via Burimari, was already approaching the station when Munna rushed to board. In the process, he lost his balance and fell onto the tracks. Local residents and railway staff immediately rushed him to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, but he was declared dead by the attending emergency doctor due to critical head injuries.

Pradip Kumar Sarkar of Lalmonirhat Railway Police (GRP) stated, “A young man has tragically died after being struck by a train. Police forces have been deployed to the scene. A detailed investigation and formal inquest report will follow, after which legal measures will be taken.”

The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety at railway stations, particularly the dangers of attempting to board moving trains. Railway authorities have urged passengers to exercise caution and emphasised that trains should only be boarded after they have come to a complete halt.
