A case has been filed against six individuals, including a local BNP leader, for allegedly abducting, assaulting, robbing, and coercing a false confession from a young man in Patiya, Chattogram. The main accused is Mokammel Haque Talukder, a former general secretary of the Patiya Ashia Union unit of the Jubo Dal (BNP’s youth wing) and currently a BNP leader.
The complaint was lodged at Patiya Police Station on Sunday night (27 July) by the victim, Md Khairul Islam Munna (27). The First Information Report (FIR) names six accused and includes an additional 7–8 unnamed individuals.
According to police sources, Mokammel Haque Talukder has 19 previous cases against him.

According to the case statement, on the evening of Saturday, 26 July, Khairul Islam Munna visited a tea stall owned by a man named Akbar (also known as Kashban) in the Banglabazar area. There, he was suddenly attacked by a group of assailants led by Mokammel Haque Talukder.
The attackers forcibly put Khairul into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and abducted him to the Kerija Bridge area, where he was brutally beaten with locally-made weapons. The assailants demanded a ransom of Tk 50,000.
As he failed to pay the money, they snatched his Oppo mobile phone (worth approximately Tk 21,000) and Tk 900 in cash.
Forced Confession and Police Intervention
The group then forced Khairul to falsely confess to being a mugger and recorded a video of the coerced statement.
Khairul’s family reported the incident to the police, who promptly launched an operation and rescued the victim in a severely injured state. He was admitted to the Patiya Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Official Statement
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nuruzzaman of Patiya Police Station stated:
“A case has been filed based on the victim’s allegations. We are investigating the matter seriously, and operations are underway to apprehend the culprits.”
The case has raised concerns regarding the political abuse of power at the local level and the use of violence and intimidation for personal or political gain. The police investigation is ongoing.
