Youth Arrested for Abusing MP While Intoxicated

Police in Keshabpur, Jhenaidah District, have arrested a 37-year-old man for verbally abusing a Member of Parliament while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on Monday night, and the arrest followed a formal complaint filed by the victim.

The accused, Naeem Hossain, hails from the Nirala area of Khulna city and is the son of Chan Sharif. At the time of his arrest, law enforcement officers reportedly recovered 10 grams of cannabis and a bottle of alcohol from his vehicle.

Incident Details

According to police and local sources, around 10:30 PM on Monday, MP Md. Moktar Ali of the Jhenaidah-6 (Keshabpur) constituency had parked his car outside the Pran Samprad Hospital to purchase medication. While standing near his vehicle, Naeem Hossain allegedly approached from the opposite side of the road in his car and began verbally abusing the MP. Witnesses stated that Hossain appeared intoxicated and continued the harassment until bystanders protested.

After the incident, Hossain reportedly left the scene swiftly. Subsequently, supporters of the MP spotted his vehicle near the central mosque in Keshabpur town and alerted the police. Upon inspection, the authorities recovered cannabis and alcohol from his car, leading to his immediate detention.

Police Statement

Keshabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Sukdev Roy, confirmed to Prothom Alo that a case has been filed and that Hossain was formally presented in court on Tuesday morning. The police have also seized his vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
