Youth Beaten by Public After Impersonating Police to Collect Extortion

A young man named Md. Tushar Sheikh was beaten by local residents after allegedly impersonating a police officer to collect extortion money.

The incident occurred on Monday, 18 August, at Sonapur Mor in Kalukhali Upazila, Rajbari District.

Following the public assault, locals handed Tushar over to a military camp, from where the authorities later transferred him to the police. Tushar Sheikh is the son of the late Zainul Sheikh from Ektarpur village, Khoksa Upazila, Kushtia District.

 

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Kalukhali Police Station, Mohammad Zahedur Rahman, confirmed the incident. He stated, citing local sources: “A young man dressed in a police uniform was reportedly demanding extortion money from shopkeepers at Sonapur Mor. Locals caught him, administered a public beating, and took him to the military camp. Subsequently, the military handed him over to the police.”

The officer added that further legal action would be taken against Tushar Sheikh following the investigation.
