Zelensky Arrives in Oslo for Talks with Norwegian Prime Minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Oslo on Wednesday for high-level discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, according to a statement from Norway’s government.

The two leaders met at the military section of Gardermoen International Airport, Oslo’s main air hub, as shown in footage broadcast by public broadcaster NRK.

While Norway has not revealed the full agenda of the talks, the meeting is understood to focus on security assistance, energy resilience, and future aid coordination as Ukraine faces renewed Russian strikes ahead of winter.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and peace efforts, stating:

“Norway stands by Ukraine in its hopes for a lasting and just peace, as the Ukrainian people deserve.”

He further emphasised the importance of maintaining close dialogue to ensure Norwegian support aligns with Ukraine’s urgent needs on the ground.

The additional 1.5 billion kroner allocation comes amid intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which have left parts of the country vulnerable ahead of freezing temperatures.

Norway, a major energy exporter, has been instrumental in helping Ukraine diversify its energy sources and reduce dependency on Russian gas.

Following his meetings in Oslo, President Zelensky will travel to Sweden later on Wednesday.

There, he is scheduled to meet Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in the industrial city of Linköping, home to defence manufacturer Saab, which produces the Gripen fighter jet among other advanced weapon systems.

According to the Swedish government, the two leaders will hold a joint press conference to announce a new defence export initiative aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s military capacity.

Both Norway and Sweden have been among Europe’s most consistent supporters of Ukraine, combining military aid, humanitarian assistance, and diplomatic backing in international forums.

The Oslo talks and the forthcoming Swedish announcement signal a deepening of Nordic–Ukrainian cooperation, crucial for sustaining Ukraine’s defence and recovery in the challenging months ahead.
