Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed that Ukraine and its allies must act collectively to maintain pressure on Russia in order to secure a just peace, cautioning against being misled by Moscow’s tactics. His remarks came shortly before crucial meetings in Berlin with European leaders and United States President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on social media on Wednesday, President Zelensky declared:
“Pressure must be exerted on Russia for the sake of a fair peace. We must learn from the experience of Ukraine and our partners to prevent deception on the part of Russia. There are currently no signs that the Russians are preparing to end the war.”
Zelensky’s visit to the German capital comes ahead of the anticipated summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Berlin discussions are expected to focus heavily on strategies to sustain diplomatic, economic, and military pressure on Moscow, as well as strengthening security cooperation among Ukraine’s allies.
| Date | Event |
| 24 Feb 2022 | Russia launches full-scale invasion of Ukraine. |
| Ongoing | Ukraine receives military and humanitarian aid from Western partners. |
| 14 Aug 2025 | Zelensky travels to Berlin for talks with EU leaders and President Trump. |
| Upcoming | Trump scheduled to meet Putin for high-level discussions. |
The Ukrainian president’s remarks underscore growing concerns in Kyiv that Russia might employ diplomatic manoeuvres to prolong the conflict without making genuine concessions, a tactic Ukrainian officials describe as “war through deception.”
Zelensky is expected to urge both European leaders and the US to maintain united, uncompromising pressure on Russia and to avoid any agreements that could leave Ukraine’s sovereignty or territorial integrity in jeopardy.
