The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md. Ibne Mizan, has stated that while the police can control drug activities, complete eradication is not feasible.
This statement came during a briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road, held on Sunday, 21 September, when he was asked about the special operation conducted the previous night at Geneva Camp, Mohammadpur.
DC Ibne Mizan explained that law enforcement regularly raids Geneva Camp, arresting drug dealers. However, offenders released from jail often return to the same crimes within a few days. On being asked why drug eradication has been impossible there, he said: “We can control drugs, but complete eradication is not possible. Through various operations, we keep drug dealers and users under control. We will make every effort to maintain this control and hope to reach the desired level.”
Regarding the recent surge in crime in Mohammadpur, he noted: “After 5 August, there has been a significant spike in criminal activity in Mohammadpur. Previously incarcerated offenders have returned, leading to multiple incidents. Over the last 6–7 months, we have brought more than 3,000 criminals under the law. Our operations target areas where criminals are most active, reducing crime in those hotspots. These operations are ongoing, and we hope the situation will improve further.”
The Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, notorious as a hub for drugs and criminal activity, was the focus of a special operation conducted by DMP. The operation arrested 40 individuals, including drug dealers, sellers, weapons suppliers, and those storing Molotov cocktails.
Items Seized During the Raid
| Item | Quantity |
| Molotov cocktails | 8 |
| Petrol bombs | 2 |
| Samurai swords | 6 |
| Helmets | 5 |
| Knives | 3 |
| Stolen mobile phones | 11 |
| Heroin | 500 gm |
DC Ibne Mizan added: “Geneva Camp is a notorious location where various crimes occur regularly. The area is especially known for drug trafficking. This operation was part of our ongoing efforts. The arrested individuals include drug dealers Bunia Sohel, Pichchi Raja, and associates of Chua Selim. Interrogations have revealed more names, and further arrests will follow. DMP will remain vigilant to prevent unstable situations in Geneva Camp in the future.”
This operation reflects DMP’s sustained effort to curb drug and criminal activities, emphasising control over complete eradication while targeting high-risk areas like Mohammadpur’s Geneva Camp.
