‘Delay in Completion Due to Financial Constraints’

After a long wait, acclaimed West Bengal director Paromita Munshi’s much-discussed film Ami Jokhon Hema Malini has finally been released on the big screen. Yet, despite the release, the director has expressed a sense of melancholy.

In a recent interview, Munshi revealed that bringing the project to completion and finally securing its release demanded relentless effort on her part, largely due to persistent financial difficulties.

She explained: “I began working on this film several years ago, but the lack of funding delayed its completion. For independent filmmakers like us, there can hardly be a greater challenge than this.”

According to her, the film was crafted with deep care and dedication, and those who have already seen it have responded with praise. However, she admitted that compared to the appreciation it received, the number of cinema halls available for screening was far from adequate.

Munshi added: “Before its release, the film stumbled several times. I could not release it in half the halls I had planned. Without sufficient funds, I could not even carry out proper promotional campaigns.”

Despite these challenges, the director insisted she never gave up. Two of the film’s greatest strengths, she said, are the soulful rendition of Rabindra Sangeet in Rupam Islam’s voice and the evocative songs by Kabir Suman.
