Trump Urges Microsoft to Dismiss Former Biden Official

US President Donald Trump on Friday publicly called on Microsoft to terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco, the company’s Head of Global Affairs and a former senior official in Democratic administrations.

“It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Since returning to office in January, Trump has taken multiple punitive measures against perceived enemies and political opponents, intensifying an already unconventional approach to political accountability.

Trump highlighted that Monaco served as Deputy Attorney General under President Joe Biden, a period during which criminal cases were brought against him.

He criticised Microsoft for hiring her in a senior position with access to sensitive information: “Monaco has been shockingly hired as the President of Global Affairs for Microsoft, in a very senior role with access to Highly Sensitive Information. Monaco’s having that kind of access is unacceptable, and cannot be allowed to stand.”

Trump further argued: “She is a menace to US National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government. The US Government recently stripped her of all Security Clearances, took away all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties.”

Since leaving the White House in 2021, Trump has been subject to several investigations:

  • The FBI raided Mar-a-Lago in 2022 over the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
  • Special Counsel Jack Smith charged Trump with attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.

Neither case reached trial. Following Trump’s victory in the November 2024 election, Smith—adhering to Justice Department policy against prosecuting a sitting president—dropped both cases.
