‘I’m Open to All Artistic Work’

Nil Hurerjahan is, first and foremost, a person of words. A regular presence as a presenter at various events, she also expresses her thoughts through writing. She is Nil Hurerjahan — a presenter, model, and actress.

Recently, a new identity has been added to her repertoire: lyricist. Kamrul Islam has written about Nil’s journey through words.

Nil is primarily known as a presenter. Alongside this, she works as a model and actress, and has been a regular writer. In 2020, her first poetry book, The Beginning of Losing, was published. Now, she has made her debut as a lyricist. All the songs in the new EP album by musician Avoid Rafar are penned by her.

Although Nil has chosen not to disclose the album’s title or the names of the songs just yet, she has revealed that it will contain four to five tracks and will be released very soon.

Will Nil continue writing songs regularly? She clarified: “No. I’ve received offers to write songs before, but I didn’t agree. Honestly, I’m not particularly interested in songwriting. I write my thoughts, and they become either poetry or prose.”

She also stated that she currently has no plans to release a new book.

Since the beginning of her career, Nil has been closely associated with presenting. She currently hosts TV shows and corporate events regularly. For the Asia Cup, she is hosting Crick Buzz on Nagorik TV and Rup Labonny on Ekushey Television.

In her own words: “Presenting is going very well. I regularly host events for the country’s major organisations. I’ll also be hosting the programme for the Asia Cup final.”

Being knowledgeable about cricket, Nil shared her thoughts on the final: “It would have been great if Bangladesh had reached the final. They had the chance but couldn’t capitalise on it. This time, India and Pakistan will play. India is a very strong team and has dominated the tournament. Pakistan also didn’t perform well; even if they won against Bangladesh, it wasn’t remarkable. So, India is likely to be ahead in the final.”

On questions and criticism faced by presenters, Nil said: “Everything is on an open platform now. People conduct shows as they like, and audiences tend to watch those shows the most. In that sense, the responsibility also lies with the audience. However, presenters and organisers should definitely act responsibly. A show represents a duty towards society and the people.”

In addition to presenting, Nil occasionally acts. She has appeared in Raihan Rafi’s Nishwas and Farhad Hossain’s web film Criminals. However, she prefers to select roles carefully and did not reveal any upcoming projects. She said: “I act selectively, only if the story and the director are good. When the time comes, I’ll share more.”

Nil entered the showbiz industry in 2014 as a radio jockey. Reflecting on a decade of experience, she said: “I haven’t lost anything; rather, I’ve gained a lot. I’ve had good platforms, excellent colleagues, and opportunities to host major programmes. From humble beginnings in radio, I now present some of the country’s best shows — that is my greatest achievement.”

Nil concluded: “As an artist, I’m open to all kinds of work. However, presenting remains my primary identity. Alongside that, I’ll continue acting and modelling as well.”
