Journalist Found Dead in Jamalpur

The body of Osman Haruni (43), a journalist from Jamalpur’s Islampur area, was discovered hanging at his home on Saturday, 27 September, in a tragic incident that has shocked the local community.

Osman Haruni served as the Jamalpur district correspondent for Mohona TV and as the Islampur Upazila representative for the newspaper ‘Amar Desh’. He was the son of the late Abu Taleb from the Polabanda Bhati Para area.

According to family sources, at around 1:00 pm, Osman left the main room of his house and went into an adjacent tin-shed room. A short while later, his younger brother’s wife entered the room and found him hanging. Her cries alerted other family members, who immediately came and took down his body. Local police and fellow journalists subsequently arrived at the scene.

The journalist’s wife, Khadija Begum, stated that Osman had been staying at home for some time and had been less engaged in his journalistic work. She noted that he spoke less and had undergone a medical operation due to health issues, with another operation scheduled in the near future.

A.S.M. Atikur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Islampur Police Station, explained that as there were no complaints from the family, the body was handed over for burial. Preliminary investigations suggest that Osman may have taken his own life due to mental stress and ongoing health problems.

Local journalists and colleagues have expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the loss, highlighting the impact of his sudden death on the community.
