Police in Ramna, Dhaka, have arrested two drug traffickers, Saju Hossain Mondal (38) and Aminul Islam (40), along with the seizure of 7,600 Yaba tablets and a motorcycle used in the crime.

The incident was confirmed on Tuesday, 30 September, by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruk of Ramna Model Police Station.

According to OC Faruk, on Monday afternoon, police received credible intelligence that a large consignment of Yaba tablets was being transported from Motijheel to the Kakrail Mor area via motorcycle. Acting on this information, Sub-Inspector Abdul Kadir led a team to set up a checkpoint in front of Tama Tower at Kakrail Mor.

When signalled to stop, the motorcycle attempted to flee, but both the rider and passenger were apprehended. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 38 blue packets, each containing 200 Yaba tablets, amounting to a total of 7,600 tablets.

Additional items seized included:

  • One Discover motorcycle used in the operation
  • Cash found on the suspects

The estimated street value of the seized Yaba tablets is approximately 22.8 lakh BDT.

A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Ramna Police Station. The arrested individuals were produced in court.

During interrogation, both Saju Hossain Mondal and Aminul Islam admitted that they had been supplying Yaba tablets in Dhaka and other regions for an extended period.
