At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, journalists were forced to boycott a press conference after facing harassment from members of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).
The incident occurred on Thursday (2 October) at around 9:45 am near the VIP gate of the airport.
Journalists had gathered at the airport for a press briefing regarding the return of Interim Government Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his delegation from the United Nations General Assembly.
One media representative stated: “During Humayun Kabir’s briefing, NCP leaders were causing serious disturbance with loud slogans. When journalists protested, the NCP members became aggressive and physically confronted us.”
Another journalist remarked critically: “If you behave like this now, imagine what would happen if you were in power. Seventeen years in power would only make it worse. They do not respect journalists as human beings and must remove disruptive members from their ranks.”
Dr. Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka on 23 September to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly and other high-level meetings in the United States. He was accompanied by:
| Name | Position |
| Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir | BNP Secretary General |
| Humayun Kabir | Foreign Affairs Advisor to Acting Chairman, BNP |
| Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher | Deputy Amir, Jamaat-e-Islami |
| Akhtar Hossain | Member Secretary, NCP |
| Dr. Tasnim Zara | Joint Convenor, NCP |
After a 9-day official visit, the delegation returned to Bangladesh today.
