Police in Badda, Dhaka, have arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident over an outstanding payment at a local rice hotel. The firearm used in the incident has not yet been recovered.
The incident occurred on Friday, 3 October, around midday in Satarekul.
The arrested individual has been identified as Riaz Ahmed Azgar, an associate of a notorious gangster known as ‘Killer Onik’.
Investigations reveal that the dispute arose over a debt of 22,000 taka owed by Munna, the owner of the rice hotel, to Kawsar, who owns a furniture shop on Fazil Bepari Mosque Road, Satarekul. Unable to recover the money directly, Munna approached Billal Hossain, the President of Ward No. 41 Jubo Dal, for assistance.
Billal reportedly pressured Kawsar to repay the debt, which led to a heated argument between the two. Following this confrontation, Riaz Ahmed Azgar and another man named Simon arrived on a motorcycle, fired a blank shot, and another round struck a nearby tin fence. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Badda Police Station, confirmed the arrest: “Riaz has been taken into custody. Both Riaz and Simon are associates of the gangster known as Killer Onik, who is currently in prison.”
Police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the fugitive Simon and recover the weapon used in the shooting.
