UN Rights Chief Describes Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan as a ‘Vital Opportunity’ to End Bloodshed ‘Once and for All’

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on Saturday described US President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan as a “vital opportunity” to bring an end to the prolonged bloodshed and human suffering in the Palestinian enclave once and for all.

In an official statement shared by his office on X (formerly Twitter), Türk urged all relevant parties and influential global powers to act with sincerity and urgency to seize this moment for peace.

“This is a vital opportunity for all parties and influential states to pursue in good faith and stop — once and for all — the carnage and the suffering in Gaza,”
his office stated.

The UN rights chief emphasised three key priorities essential to the success of the initiative:

Priority Objective
1. Humanitarian Access To immediately flood the Gaza Strip with life-saving humanitarian aid.
2. Hostage Release To ensure the safe and unconditional release of hostages currently held in the region.
3. Detainee Freedom To secure the release of numerous Palestinians detained amid the ongoing conflict.

Türk’s remarks come as the international community continues to grapple with the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where widespread devastation, shortages of food and medicine, and civilian casualties have drawn global condemnation.

The rights chief stressed that genuine commitment and cooperation from all sides — both regional actors and international stakeholders — were essential to transform the peace plan from a political document into a real pathway toward lasting stability and dignity for all those affected.
