Two Arrested in Mirpur Bus Shooting and Arson Incident

The Bangladesh Army has arrested two individuals, including the main suspect, in connection with a shooting and arson incident on a moving passenger bus operated by Alif Transport in the Senpara area of Mirpur, Dhaka. The arrested suspects are Nesar and his associate Dipu.

Arrest Details

  • The arrests were made on the night of Friday, 3 October, from the Mirpur area.
  • Confirmation came on Saturday, 4 October, from sources at Mirpur Army Camp.
  • The suspects are currently being handed over to Kafrul Police Station for further investigation.

Following morning Investigation initiated through CCTV footage analysis and eyewitness accounts.
Night of Friday Army conducted an operation in Mirpur, resulting in the arrest of the main suspects.

 

Incident Description

  • The bus was halted by hand signals from the assailants when it arrived in Senpara.
  • The driver and his assistant were assaulted and forced to exit the bus.
  • Passengers fled the bus in panic.
  • Several rounds of gunfire were fired at the front glass of the bus.
  • Subsequently, the assailants set the bus on fire.

Possible Motive

  • Some employees had been dismissed from Alif Transport, which police suspect triggered the anger of the dismissed staff and led to the attack.

Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, stated: “A case is currently under process. We are investigating the incident thoroughly. Preliminary findings suggest that an internal dispute among the transport staff may have caused this incident. We are examining all possible angles, including any further conflicts.”

 

The authorities continue to collect evidence and witness testimonies, ensuring a detailed investigation into the incident. The swift action of the army and police has helped contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
