First Supermoon of 2025 to Appear on 7 October – Will It Be Visible from Bangladesh?

Exciting news for moon enthusiasts: the first supermoon of 2025 is expected on 7 October. During this event, the Moon will reach its closest point to Earth in its orbit, appearing larger and brighter than usual. Astronomers refer to this particular supermoon as the ‘Harvest Moon’, traditionally seen at the start of the autumn season.

This year, observers will have the opportunity to witness three consecutive supermoons, with the Harvest Moon in October being the first.

Experts note that the 2025 Harvest Moon will coincide with the autumnal equinox, when the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator, making day and night approximately equal in length.

Key features of the Harvest Moon:

  • Appears larger and brighter than a regular full moon
  • Exhibits a golden-orange hue, particularly when near the horizon
  • Rises faster than a normal full moon, remaining visible over multiple nights
  • Especially prominent and brilliant during evening hours

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the 7 October supermoon will be visible across South Asia, including Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Aspect Detail
Relative Size 14% larger than an average full moon
Brightness 30% brighter than average full moon
Distance from Earth Approximately 224,599 miles (361,400 km)
Best Viewing Nights 6 and 7 October
Optimal Conditions Open sky, free from light pollution

Astronomers explain that the supermoon will appear largest and most vividly coloured near the horizon, showing a deep golden-orange hue.
