The Business of Lawsuits Has Spread Across the Country Like a Cancer: Mostafa Firoz

Senior journalist Mostafa Firoz has warned that the business of lawsuits has spread across the country like a cancer.

He shared his observations in a recent video message on a Facebook page.

In his message, Mostafa Firoz said that in Feni, both businessmen and expatriates are being targeted. He explained that the accused in a police station attack posed as the victim and implicated 264 individuals.

He elaborated:“After the incident on 5 August, only one person was accused of attacking the police station. The accused was released on bail four months later. Claiming to have been injured during the protests, he himself filed a lawsuit and named 264 people as defendants.”

Firoz further identified the primary targets:

  • Businessmen
  • Expatriates

“This region has a large expatriate population. Since they possess significant financial resources, they are being specifically targeted. Businessmen, too, are being singled out.”

He continued to describe the new trend: “Lawsuit business works like this: I will remove your name from the case—give me money. I will secure your bail—give me money. A new business model has emerged from legal proceedings.”

Concluding his statement, Firoz expressed disappointment: “I had assumed that after Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, this type of lawsuit business would come to an end. However, it has expanded instead, growing manifold.”
