Varun Dhawan Reveals His First “Child” is Not Daughter Lara, But His Pet Dog!

Bollywood star Varun Dhawan, one of the most popular actors among the younger generation and a proven talent for over a decade, recently opened up about his love for his daughter Lara and his pet dog Joey on a television show. He revealed that, to him, there is no distinction between the two, and it was Joey who prepared him for fatherhood.

The show, hosted by Twinkle Khanna, featured Varun alongside his friend Alia Bhatt. During the conversation, Varun shared insights into his personal life and experiences as a parent.

At one point, Varun said:

“When my first child Joey came into my life, I changed a lot.”

Twinkle Khanna joked:

“So you changed because of your dog, not your child?”

Alia Bhatt added:

“Since Joey arrived first in Varun’s life, he helped him prepare for the arrival of his child.”

Varun elaborated on his bond with Joey:

“Joey used to pee and poop… I reached a point where I felt I could do anything for him. And I’m not just saying this for the camera, but I truly don’t differentiate between my dog and my daughter. Joey was my first child. The bond I share with him, I don’t think I could share that with anyone else.”

This candid revelation highlights how deeply pets can influence and shape emotional readiness for parenthood.

Varun Dhawan is married to his childhood sweetheart Natasha Dalal. Four years after their marriage, they welcomed their daughter Lara in June 2025.
