A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 5 October, when Rashedul Islam, a student of the 2020–21 academic year at Kazi Nazrul Islam University, lost his life in a lightning strike while returning to campus. He was a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Film and Media Studies Department.

The incident took place in Bhabanipur village, Ghaghutia Union, Homna Upazila, Comilla, his paternal home. Rashed’s permanent residence was in Pathaliakandi village, Dulalpur Union, Comilla.

Rashedul Islam was en route to the university when he was caught in a sudden lightning strike while crossing the river via the Ujanchar-Ghaghutia ferry. Unfortunately, two other women in the boat also lost their lives in the disaster.
