Kylian Mbappé has been in fantastic form this season, scoring in his most recent La Liga match and helping Real Madrid edge closer to victory. However, the French forward was unable to complete the game due to a leg injury.
After the match, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso revealed that Mbappé was experiencing some discomfort, though it is too early to make any definitive statements about the severity of the injury.
Match Recap: Real Madrid 3–1 Villarreal
On Saturday night at Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid secured a 3–1 victory over Villarreal in La Liga.
With this goal, Mbappé has now scored in nine consecutive matches across club and international competitions.
Mbappé’s celebration was short-lived. Just two minutes after scoring, he was forced to leave the pitch due to an ankle injury. Brazilian forward Rodrygo came on as his replacement.
This season, Mbappé has already scored 14 goals in 10 club appearances, so his injury immediately raised concerns among fans and analysts alike.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Xabi Alonso said:
“I cannot say that he will miss the French national team. At the moment, he is feeling some discomfort. The national team doctors will assess the situation. We hope it is nothing serious, but it is too early to be certain.”
Implications for France
During the current international break, France will play two World Cup qualifying matches.
France currently leads Group D with six points from their first two victories.
If Mbappé is forced to miss these matches, it would be a major blow for both Real Madrid and the French national team, raising concerns over team strategy and offensive firepower.
