Trump Says Hamas ‘Agreeing to Things That Are Very Important’

US President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Monday about the possibility of a peace deal in Gaza, noting that Hamas was agreeing to “very important” matters as indirect talks with Israel commenced.

Trump’s Comments on the Peace Process

Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump acknowledged that he had red lines for the negotiations:”I have red lines, if certain things aren’t met we’re not going to do it.”

When asked whether Hamas agreeing to disarmament was a precondition, he replied: “But I think we’re doing very well and I think Hamas has been agreeing to things that are very important.”

Trump emphasised his confidence in a successful outcome, despite the long history of failed attempts at brokering peace:”I think we’re going to have a deal. It’s a hard thing for me to say that when for years and years they’ve been trying to have a deal. We’re going to have a Gaza deal, I’m pretty sure, yeah.”

Indirect Talks Begin

  • Delegations from Hamas and Israel have started indirect negotiations in Egypt.
  • The discussions are focused on ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza under Trump’s proposed 20-point plan.

Relations with Israeli Leadership

Trump dismissed reports claiming he had accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of negativity regarding the talks. He stated that Netanyahu had been: “Very positive about the deal.”

The US President’s remarks signal a cautious optimism as efforts intensify to broker a ceasefire and secure a lasting agreement between Hamas and Israel.
