In the South China Sea, a US Navy helicopter and a fighter jet crashed within half an hour of each other. The crews of both aircraft were safely rescued, according to the US Navy. CNN reported the news.
The Navy stated that on Sunday (26 October), an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz crashed during a routine mission. Half an hour later, an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet from the same carrier also crashed. The crews of both aircraft were rescued safely.
The South China Sea is strategically important. Several countries in Southeast Asia, including China, claim parts of the sea. The United States has maintained a steady presence there to support regional partners and counter Beijing’s claims.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is on a tour of Asia. He is scheduled to discuss trade with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
