Young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has earned a recall to Australia’s T20 squad after nearly two years, following the absence of experienced spinner Adam Zampa.
Zampa has withdrawn from the upcoming T20 series against India citing personal reasons. As his replacement, Cricket Australia (CA) has called up the 23-year-old Tanveer.
Zampa is currently awaiting the birth of his second child and has taken leave to be with his pregnant wife. He remains Australia’s highest wicket-taker in T20 international history.
Earlier, Zampa missed the first ODI in Perth due to travel complications but returned in the second ODI in Adelaide, where he was named Player of the Match.
Tanveer Sangha, who replaces Zampa, made his T20 debut in 2023 and took four wickets in his very first match against South Africa. However, after playing seven matches that year, he was left out of the squad.
His last T20 appearance was also against India in December 2023. Now, the Sydney Thunder leg-spinner is set to make his return on home soil against the same opponent.
The five-match T20 series between Australia and India will begin on Wednesday in Canberra.
