A case has been filed accusing 150 unidentified individuals over the attack on the Upakul Express train at Bhairab Railway Station. Railway Station Master Yusuf filed the case, while three suspects have been detained by the railway police.
The case was lodged on Monday (October 27) night at the Bhairab Railway Police Station.
The detainees are identified as Md. Sazon (17), Md. Fahim (18), and another 17-year-old teenager.
According to the case statement, 200–250 members of a local organization named “Palli Jagoroni Sangha” blocked the railway line near Platform No. 1 at Bhairab Bazar Junction Railway Station, demanding that Bhairab be declared the 65th district. When the Dhaka-bound Upakul Express began moving, about 100–150 demonstrators, acting in groups, threw stones at the train’s engine and coaches, creating panic among passengers.
The attack caused damage to several parts of the train, including a headlight, a looking glass, a side window, the guardroom glass, and the dining coach windows. The estimated loss is around Tk 1.5 lakh.
Station Master Yusuf said that during the blockade, protesters suddenly began pelting stones at the train. After videos of the incident spread online, senior officials instructed him to file a case against 150 unidentified individuals for damaging government property and causing public panic. Three suspects have since been arrested.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Railway Police Station Md. Saeed Ahmed said that a case has been filed against 150 unknown people in connection with the stone-throwing incident on Monday. The actual perpetrators will be identified and brought under the law after reviewing video footage.
