The country’s stock market witnessed a decline in indices throughout the week, leading to a decrease in market capitalization by Tk 5,796 crore on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
According to the weekly market report, DSE’s total market capitalization fell by 0.82 percent, or Tk 5,796 crore. By the end of the week, DSE’s market capitalization stood at Tk 6,99,547 crore, down from Tk 7,05,343 crore recorded the previous week.
All major indices on the DSE saw a downturn this week. The benchmark index, DSEX, dropped by 27.67 points or 0.54 percent. The DS30 index declined by 10.34 points or 0.52 percent, while the DSES index fell by 5.92 points or 0.54 percent.
Despite the index fall, total turnover on the DSE increased. The week’s total turnover amounted to Tk 2,286.86 crore, compared to Tk 2,138.71 crore the previous week — a rise of Tk 148.15 crore.
Average daily turnover also rose by Tk 29.63 crore, or 6.93 percent. The daily average turnover during the week reached Tk 457.37 crore, up from Tk 427.74 crore the week before.
During the week, 392 company shares and mutual fund units were traded on the DSE. Among them, prices increased for 177 companies, decreased for 179, and remained unchanged for 36.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw declines in its key indices over the week. The CASPI index fell by 0.88 percent to 14,286.05 points, while the CSCX index dropped by 0.77 percent to 8,813.35 points.
Additionally, the CSI index declined by 0.98 percent to 898.92 points. The CSE-50 index fell by 1.37 percent to 1,089.77 points, and the CSE-30 index dropped by 0.59 percent to 12,651.34 points.
Turnover on the CSE, however, increased during the week. Total turnover stood at Tk 98.24 crore, up from Tk 67.60 crore the previous week — an increase of Tk 30.64 crore.
A total of 306 company shares and mutual fund units were traded on the CSE during the week. Of them, prices rose for 115 companies, fell for 170, and remained unchanged for 21.
