A young man named Mokaddes Hossain Khan Sonchoy has reportedly received a death threat through a letter demanding Tk 50,000.
The incident took place at Durgapur Khanpara village under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon district. Sonchoy is the son of the late Motahar Hossain Khan of the same village.
According to reports, the letter was found on the veranda of Sonchoy’s house early Wednesday (October 29).
The letter read: “Sonchoy, my younger brother, hope you are well. We don’t have much time. You must give us Tk 50,000 by the 5th of this month. Otherwise, you’ll face the same fate as Raju. Don’t make any mistake. Even if you give Tk 5 lakh later, we won’t need it. Raju had Tk 3 lakh, but we didn’t take it because he missed the deadline and tried to gather information secretly, which is why we had to finish him off. So don’t make the same mistake. On the 5th night, around 2–3 am, keep the money in a bag on the eastern side of your house gate’s stairs. We’ll come and take it.”
Sonchoy said, “I woke up in the morning and found the letter on the veranda. Someone must have thrown it through the grill early in the morning. I informed two locals, and following their advice, I reported it to the authorities.”
Locals said the matter is highly alarming, as a similar incident occurred in 2005 when a young man named Raju was brutally murdered in the same area. They demanded that the culprits behind the threat be brought to justice.
Raninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hafiz Md. Raihan said the matter has been reported verbally. Police will visit the spot for investigation and take necessary legal action.
