Beijing has firmly denied allegations made by former US President Donald Trump that China has conducted undisclosed nuclear weapons tests.
Responding to the claims on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasised that China remains fully committed to global nuclear disarmament norms and peaceful development. She reiterated that Beijing has consistently followed a policy of restraint and transparency regarding its nuclear capabilities.
“China has always adhered to the path of peaceful development, pursued a policy of no first use of nuclear weapons, upheld a self-defence nuclear strategy, and abided by its commitment to suspend nuclear testing,” Mao stated.
The denial comes amid heightened international scrutiny over global nuclear policies, with growing tensions between major powers. Beijing reaffirmed its stance that it remains a responsible nuclear power, calling on all nations to work collectively towards maintaining global stability and avoiding misinformation that could escalate geopolitical mistrust.
