Foden’s Brace and Haaland’s Strike Seal Manchester City’s Dominant Victory

Manchester City produced a commanding performance in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, sweeping aside Borussia Dortmund with an emphatic 4–1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

The victory was shaped by a brilliant brace from Phil Foden, while Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki added one goal apiece to complete the rout against the German side.

With this result, City have collected 10 points from four matches and currently sit fourth in the group standings. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, are in 14th place with seven points from the same number of games.

Although possession was fairly even between the two teams, City were far more clinical in attack. The English champions registered 14 shots, nine of which were on target, while Dortmund managed only one effort on goal.

City took the lead in the 22nd minute through Foden, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper following a precise through pass. Seven minutes later, Erling Haaland doubled the advantage with a trademark finish inside the box.

The Norwegian forward has now scored in all four of City’s Champions League fixtures this season, taking his tally to five consecutive games with a goal in the competition—a testament to his remarkable consistency.

After the interval, City maintained their attacking rhythm. In the 57th minute, Foden struck again to make it 3–0, capitalising on a clever assist from Jack Grealish.

Dortmund briefly threatened a comeback in the 72nd minute when Waldemar Anton pulled one back with a well-taken goal. However, their hopes were quickly dashed as City reasserted control.

In stoppage time, Rayan Cherki added a fourth to seal a comfortable and convincing victory for Pep Guardiola’s men.

With this result, Manchester City move a step closer to securing qualification for the knockout stage, while Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of progression hang in the balance.
