Dr. Reza Kibria, son of former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, has joined the BNP. He intends to contest the upcoming national parliamentary election from Habiganj-1 under the Dhanshish symbol. This seat has been left vacant by BNP, and the party has not yet announced its candidate.
Reza Kibria confirmed the development to the media on Wednesday. He said, “I have already joined the BNP and filled out the preliminary membership form. I will formally join the party in a few days. I will contest the election in my area under the Dhanshish symbol. In the 2018 election, I ran from Habiganj-1 under the Dhanshish symbol as a candidate of the Jatiya Oikya Front.”
However, several central BNP leaders told the media that they were unaware of this development.
Prior to the 11th national parliamentary election in 2018, Reza Kibria joined Ganoforum and served as the party’s general secretary. He contested the election under the Dhanshish symbol on the Jatiya Oikya Front banner. Later, he joined the Ganadhikar Parishad led by former DU VP Nur as convenor. After a short while, he distanced himself from politics due to personal reasons. The Ganadhikar Parishad subsequently split into two factions, and Reza Kibria became the founding convenor of the Amjonotar Party. After that, he remained inactive in politics and was not affiliated with any party.
