Beneath the glittering glamour and dazzling lights of the film industry, there often lies a darker reality. Many actors have openly spoken about the uncomfortable and sometimes frightening experiences they faced at the start of their careers. Now, actress Mauni Roy has added her story to that list.
Recently, Mauni appeared as a guest on the show Spice It Up, hosted by Apurba Mukherjee. She revealed that, although she never encountered a casting couch situation, she was subjected to inappropriate behaviour by a man when she was just 21 years old.
‘Before I even understood what was happening…’
Mauni recalled, “It wasn’t a casting couch incident, but it was still very unpleasant. I was around 21 or 22 at the time. I had gone to an office where a story was being described. Suddenly, a scene was mentioned—a girl falls unconscious in a swimming pool, and the hero goes to save her, giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until she regains consciousness.”
What happened next left a lasting impact on her. Mauni said, “Suddenly, that man grabbed my face and started showing me how mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was done. For a moment, I couldn’t even process what was happening. I just trembled and stepped down. The incident stayed with me mentally for a long time.”
She did not disclose the identity of the man involved—whether he was an actor, director, or casting agent remains unknown.
