Husband Burns Wife’s Face with Hot Rod and Cuts Her Ankle in Gaibandha

A housewife named Sharmin Akter (28) has been brutally tortured by her husband in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha. Allegations state that her husband, Alamgir Hossain (35), burned her face and several parts of her body with a hot iron rod and later cut her left ankle with scissors over a trivial matter.

The incident occurred on Monday (November 10) at Chhoto Daudpur village under Jamalpur Union of the upazila. The next morning, Sharmin’s mother, Sufia Begum, filed a complaint with Sadullapur Police Station.

Sharmin Akter, who sustained serious injuries, is now undergoing treatment at Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex. Alamgir Hossain has been absconding since the incident.

Sharmin said she married Alamgir about four years ago. Since their marriage, her husband frequently assaulted her over minor issues. On the morning of the incident, a quarrel broke out over food, during which Alamgir burned her with a hot rod and cut her ankle, causing her to lose consciousness. Later, neighbors, with the help of village police, rescued her and took her to the hospital.

Sharmin’s mother, Sufia Begum, said Alamgir fled after torturing her daughter. Later, neighbors, with the assistance of village police, rescued Sharmin and took her to the hospital.

Dr. S. M. Shafiq Arefin, the on-duty doctor at Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex, said the patient has multiple burn injuries on her body. She suffered severe bleeding due to her cut ankle and is currently in shock but receiving necessary treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadullapur Police Station, Taj Uddin Khondaker, said police were sent to the hospital and Chhoto Daudpur village after learning about the incident. Preparations are underway to file a case.
