Unidentified assailants opened fire at the family home of Pakistan’s fast bowler Naseem Shah in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when shots were fired at the front gate of the cricketer’s residence. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, Naseem remains with the Pakistan national team and is expected to continue playing in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Local police confirmed that the attackers fled the scene immediately after firing. An investigation has since been launched to identify and apprehend the culprits. It remains unclear who was present at the residence during the incident.
As reported by Dawn News, Naseem’s father met with a senior local police officer following the attack. The officer assured the family that a full inquiry was underway and promised that those responsible would be brought to justice promptly.
Despite the alarming incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Naseem Shah’s schedule remains unchanged. The 21-year-old pacer will continue to represent the national side in upcoming fixtures and fulfil his professional commitments.
The ODI series against Sri Lanka begins today at 3 p.m. in Rawalpindi, followed by a tri-nation T20 series featuring Zimbabwe later this month, in which Naseem is also expected to participate.
Naseem comes from a cricketing family, with both his younger brothers also active in professional cricket.
Hunain Shah, one of his brothers, played a decisive role for Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) final, scoring the winning runs. Just last week, he took six wickets and scored a fifty in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match, leading his team to a ten-wicket victory.
His other brother, Obaid Shah, represents Multan Sultans in the PSL and most recently featured for Lahore Whites in the domestic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
The shooting has sparked concern among fans and fellow players, though Naseem’s calm response and continued commitment to his team have drawn widespread praise. The young pacer remains focused on Pakistan’s World Cup preparations despite the troubling events back home.
