Brazilian Star Oscar Hospitalised with Health Issues, Considering Retirement

Brazilian midfielder Oscar has been hospitalised due to heart-related issues, confirmed his club, São Paulo. Local media reports suggest that, as a result of these health problems, Oscar is now contemplating retirement from football.

The 34-year-old player was undergoing a fitness test on an exercise bike at the Barra Funda training centre when he suddenly fell ill. He had been recovering from a muscle injury and was going through the rehabilitation process, which included the fitness test. Oscar, who made 48 appearances for Brazil between 2011 and 2015, had been working through his recovery in preparation for a return to form.

After falling ill, Oscar was quickly transferred by ambulance to the Albert Einstein Hospital, where he received emergency treatment. His condition is now stable, and doctors are conducting further tests to assess his health. As a result, Oscar is currently under observation in the hospital.

A statement from São Paulo, the Serie A club based in Brazil, said, “In accordance with standard procedures and respecting the player’s privacy, any new information from the medical team will be shared with Oscar’s consent.”

Oscar joined São Paulo in December on a three-year contract, returning to his boyhood club after successful stints at Shanghai Port and Chelsea. However, he has struggled with injuries since joining, and in July, he sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured bone in his hip. This has limited him to just 21 appearances across all competitions this year.

Once considered a promising talent in Brazilian football, Oscar last played for the national team in 2015. He is perhaps best remembered for scoring Brazil’s only goal in their 7–1 defeat to Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-final.
