Gunfire Reported During BNP Rally in Keraniganj

In South Keraniganj, Dhaka, allegations have arisen of gunfire being fired at a rally organised by BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) activists. The police have recovered a bullet shell from the scene.

The incident occurred around midday on Wednesday (12 November) in the Westdi area of Tegarhia Union, in front of the house of the late former chairman Lutfor Mollah.

The rally was led by Jewel Mollah, the convenor of Dhaka District Krishak Dal (farmers’ wing of BNP), and Selim Mollah, the joint convenor of the South Keraniganj Thana Youth Dal (BNP’s youth wing).

Selim Mollah stated, “We were holding a peaceful rally in protest of the fascist government’s lockdown. As we reached the house of Lutfor Mollah, gunshots were fired from inside the house, which caused panic among the activists. We suspect that Lutfor Mollah’s son, Rifaat Mollah, was responsible for the shooting.”

However, Rifaat Mollah denied the allegations, claiming, “I believe that someone from the rally fired shots towards our house.”

A team from the South Keraniganj Police Station visited the scene following the incident. Officer-in-charge Syed Akhtar Hossain confirmed that a bullet shell had been recovered, but no written complaint had been filed by any party at that time. “If a formal complaint is lodged, legal action will be taken,” he added.
