Fire Set on Parked Bus in Jessore, Slum Dwellers Narrowly Escape Disaster

A bus parked near the park area in the suburbs of Jessore city was set on fire by unidentified miscreants early Thursday morning (November 13). At the time of the fire, residents of the nearby slum narrowly escaped what could have been a major disaster.

Upon receiving the news, the police visited the scene and have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

The supervisor of the bus, Hannan Khan (from Magura Shreepur), stated that the bus, named Rahim Special (Magura J-11-0007), regularly operates on the Jessore-Magura route. As usual, the bus was parked in the suburban area on Wednesday night. Khan mentioned, “I was inside the bus during the night. After I returned home in the morning, I was informed that miscreants had set the bus on fire.”

Khan further explained that the fire damaged the bus’s seats and other parts, but the engine remained intact. Local residents claimed that if the fire had spread to the nearby slum, numerous houses would have been reduced to ashes in moments. Thanks to the swift action of the locals, a major disaster was averted.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, Abul Hasnat Khan, said, “It appears that the fire was started by breaking the window next to the driver’s seat. The night guard was away, having tea nearby at the time. The supervisor was also on his way to the bus. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
