Tourist dies by suicide in Cox’s Bazar while on a video call with his girlfriend

A tourist named Sourav (25) died by suicide by hanging himself while on a video call with his girlfriend inside a hotel room in Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred on Thursday (13 November) around 6:30 pm in room 506 of Hotel World Beach located in Kolatoli near the sea.

Sourav was a resident of Sylhet Municipality.

Md. Ilias Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, stated that Sourav took his own life during a video call following a disagreement with his girlfriend.

During the incident, Sourav’s girlfriend informed his friends over the phone. The friends quickly arrived at the hotel and found the door locked. Later, with the help of the hotel authorities, they broke open the door and recovered Sourav’s body hanging inside.
The OC added that initial findings indicate Sourav had previously attempted suicide out of frustration related to his relationship.

The mobile phone recovered from the scene along with other evidence has been seized. The body has been sent to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
