Bangladesh is set to host the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup for the first time. Argentina, a Latin American country, was initially scheduled to participate, but they have withdrawn from the tournament at the last moment.
SM Newaz Sohag, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, confirmed to the media that the International Kabaddi Federation has informed them that Argentina will not be participating in the Women’s World Cup.
With Argentina’s withdrawal, the number of countries participating in the World Cup now stands at 12. According to the federation, Zanzibar has already arrived in Dhaka, and two more countries are expected to arrive tonight.
In addition to host Bangladesh, the participating countries include India, Chinese Taipei, Germany, the Netherlands, Iran, Japan, Kenya, South Korea, Nepal, Thailand, Uganda, and Zanzibar.
Although the World Cup was initially set to begin on November 15, the federation issued a press release on Friday (November 14) announcing that the tournament will now kick off on November 17. While the main venue for the event will be the Kabaddi Stadium in Paltan, some matches will also take place at the Shaheed Sohrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
